Secondary School LED Lighting Upgrade: Bourne Grammar Case Study

Bourne Grammar School, a large secondary school in Lincolnshire, recently upgraded its lighting to cut energy costs, improve classroom visibility, and modernise its facilities.

Why the School Needed a Lighting Upgrade

The school was facing high energy bills and rising maintenance demands due to an aging fluorescent lighting system. Some areas were dim, glare-prone, and increasingly difficult to maintain due to changes in legislation limiting the sale of replacement fluorescent tubes.

The school wanted a cost-effective, energy-efficient solution that would improve lighting quality, reduce running costs, and ensure compliance with safety standards.

How 900 Electrical Solutions Helped

We offered Bourne Grammar a full lighting survey and detailed quote. Our lighting designer visited the school to assess the site, create a report with tailored recommendations, and calculate annual CO₂, energy, and cost savings.

Based on the survey, the school decided to upgrade the “new block” building first, as this offered the largest energy savings for the investment.

Over 400 QVIS LED lights with a 5-year warranty
Upgraded emergency lighting to make the building fully compliant
Full design and installation with minimal disruption to school operations

The Results

The upgrade delivered outstanding results for the school:

65% reduction in lighting-related energy bills
Brighter, more consistent and comfortable classrooms
Lower maintenance and simplified control systems
Fully compliant emergency lighting system

Teachers immediately noticed the difference, reporting improved visibility, reduced glare, and a better learning environment.

Following the success, the school has now approached us to provide ongoing emergency lighting maintenance and fixed wire (EICR) testing, further enhancing safety across the campus.
