Enhancing Access Control at The Sheffield College

A tailored access control solution to improve security, efficiency, and student management across multiple campuses.

The Challenge

The Sheffield College, with a student population of 14,500 spread across six campuses, required an advanced Access Control System. They needed a solution to monitor student movement in different areas and manage access permissions efficiently.

Our Solutions

Ninehundred Communications implemented an Access Control System using ACTpro 3000 controllers across more than 150 doors, focusing on securing building entrances. The ACTWin pro software was seamlessly integrated with the college’s enrolment system to enhance functionality and improve operational efficiency.

To further streamline the process, we developed a synchronisation tool that enables the enrolment database to populate ACTWin pro via an XML drop, eliminating the need for manual data entry. This automation has resulted in a conservative estimated saving of 23 man-days per year, significantly reducing administrative workload and the risk of data duplication.

How We Helped

The upgraded access control system not only improved security but also enhanced accessibility for students with impaired mobility. By implementing proximity scanning at turnstiles, these students can easily activate door controllers for seamless entry. The collaboration between all stakeholders ensured a customised, efficient, and highly functional solution tailored to the college’s specific needs.
