What’s Included in the Funding?
The Department for Education’s Connect the Classroom programme is a major government initiative aimed at improving internet speed and wireless connectivity in schools across England. Specifically targeting schools in the Regional Improvement for Standards and Excellence (RISE) programme, this scheme provides funding to upgrade Wi-Fi access points and network infrastructure, helping schools deliver smarter, safer, and faster digital classrooms.
Who Can Take Part?
If your school is currently receiving targeted intervention through the RISE programme, you are eligible to benefit from this funding, provided your existing Wi-Fi network falls below the Department for Education’s strict technical standards.
Schools eligible for the Connect The Classroom funding will be contacted directly by the DfE. These standards ensure your wireless network:
- Uses the latest Wi-Fi Alliance-approved wireless technology
- Provides full, uninterrupted wireless coverage inside school buildings and outdoor areas where needed
- Has centralised network management to ensure efficiency and ease of use
- Incorporates robust security to prevent unauthorised access
